Photograph of Your Star

Have you purchased a star or paid for a star to have your name assigned to it? Did you receive a photograph of your star and where it is in the sky with that purchase?

If you would like a photograph of your star Astro Photography Australia can help you. We are happy to attempt to photograph your star for you.

The process of photographing your star is an involved process with several steps involved:

  1. Contact Us with information about your star, this would preferably include a catalogue number such as SAO 1234567 or GSC 1234567, and co-ordinates in the format of "RA" (Right Assention) and "DEC" (Declination).
  2. We will do a quick check to see if it is visible from our location, to have any hope at all of photographing the star. If it is visible, we will tell you when we will be able to photograph it (it may be that to photograph your star we need to wait several months for it to be visible during night).
  3. Upon agreement to proceed, we will attempt to photograph your star.
  4. A suitable photograph acquired will be sent to you in small JPG version via email to OK before printing. Payment will be required at this point, prior to printing.
  5. A print will be made of the field of view containing your star. This will be a long lasting true photographic quality print, with a life span of 80+ years and will be signed by the photographer.

The process of finding and then photographing and printing a photograph of your star is quite involved and time consuming taking many hours. Remember that photographs of celestial objects are not measured in fractions of a second, but in minutes and hours.

The final print will be of a size suitable to the photograph and agreed to by yourself. This will be up to a maximum of 80cm x 50cm in size.

We will always attempt to photograph your star in an aesthetic and artistic way, so as to make a pleasing photograph to frame for your wall. It is common for well known constellations to be clearly visible along with nebulosity colour and reconisable star clusters.

The cost of this service varies based upon the size of the final print. A once-off fee of US$100 will be charged for the service of finding, identifying and photographing the star field. This will only be charged when a suitable photograph is agreed upon (see step 4 above). In addition a cost for each print will be incurred, matching our standard print prices: US$15.95 up to US$67.95 depending upon size.
