This image
shows a large section of
the Constellation of Orion, centred on the Great Orion Nebula and also shows Barnard's Loop surrounding
Orion. The wide colour range of stars in the area hilighted within this image. From the
Southern Hemisphere Orion (and other constellations) appear "up side down" as
appeared from the Northern Hemisphere. This has given the constellation of Orion a
nickname "the saucepan". You may be able to make out the shape, with the Great
Orion Nebula in the handle of the saucepan. This image shows Orion as appearing in the
Southern Hemisphere.
For those astronomically minded people, prints of this image clearly feature Barnards
Loop, a ring of red nebulosity surrounding the constellaiton.
This and all prints from Astro Photography Australia are long lasting photographic
prints, each individually signed.
