Large and Small Magellanic Clouds

This photograph shoes the familiar Large and Small Magellanic Clouds with sharp silhouettes of foreground trees, giving the photograph perspective and scale. The feel of the image is representative of what an observer sees under the dark skies of the Western Australian Wheatbelt region. A hint of the Milky Way, which extends out to the right of frame, is shown in the bottom left.

The Magellanic Clouds are galaxies that orbit around our own Milky Way galaxy. This picture, having the Magellanic Clouds and stars from our own Milky Way shows a depth of approximately 160,000 light years.

As with all our photographs, prints of the Orion Nebula come signed individually by the photographer and professionally printed on archival stock.
