47 Tucanae

47 Tucanae is a globular cluster near the Small Magellanic Cloud (as viewed from Earth). It is a collection of hundreds of thousands of stars, tightly grouped. Visible to the naked eye under dark skies, it is a well known and much loved southern hemisphere celestial object. While not as large as it's big brother Omega Centauri it's often preferred for it's cosmetic appeal.

This photograph shows the globular cluster 47 Tucanae with surrounding stars. There are actually several smaller clusters visible in the same photograph, surrounding 47 Tucanae. These smaller clusters are likely part of the Small Magellanic Cloud. The space shown around 47 Tucanae in this image help to give it a sense of scale, and interest.

As with all our photographs, prints of 47 Tucanae come signed individually by the photographer and professionally printed on archival stock.
